Using the Calendar Application
Schedule and share events with the Webs Calendar. Keep your visitors and members up-to-date on the happenings around your site. Easy map insertion, iCal support and recurrence settings.
The Calendar Application currently supports single events, full-day events, multiple-day events, and recurring events. The calendar application is one of the many applications that you can add to the sidebars of your web site. Adding an application to a sidebar shows a dynamically updated summary of your calendar.
How to Add a Calendar
The first step to having a calendar on your web site is to add the calendar application. The calendar application can be added through the Site Manager in the Edit Site section of your account.
Click Edit Site in your account
By default you are in the Site Manager
Click the Add a New Page button under My Pages Note: If the Calendar Application Icon is not listed in the Add a New Page Pop over, you may already have the calendar installed on your site.
Give your calendar a name and click Create
You will be redirected to the Calendar editor
The Calendar settings section allows you to change the calendar Title, give the calendar a Description that appears on the published calendar, as well as set your time zone, default permissions for your members, and calendar overlays such as holidays.
Tip: Do you currently have an iCal calendar? You can import it to your Webs calendar through the Calendar Settings. Look for the "Import events from an existing calendar (iCal format)" under the Calendar Overlays option.
Title and Description
Add or change your Calendar Title and a Description. In the description you can edit the formatting of the text, add links, videos, images, or custom smilies. The description will appear at the top of your published application.
Time Zone and Member Permissions
In the Calendar Settings you can change the default time zone and view (month, week etc). You can also set the member permissions as to who can post one-time and recurring events and who can comment on events.
Additionally you can determine what holidays or events show on your calendar by default. You can select multiple overlays by double clicking on each overlay or using the double arrows to move all of the overlays over.
Importing from iCal
iCal is a calendar that comes with most Macs and allows you to create and collaborate events. It is possible to import your iCal calendar to your Webs Calendar Application using the link below Calendar Overlays in the Calendar Settings section of the Calendar Editor.
Delete all Events
If you want to clear your calendar and delete all the events at once you can do this through the Calendar Settings section. The link to Delete all events is in the top right.
Note: Once you delete your events this cannot be undone.
Adding Events To Your Calendar
Once you have created your calendar and set the member permissions on it, it is time to start adding your events. You can add an event to the calendar through the Editor or through your published site (as long as you are logged in with the correct permissions based on what you set in Calendar Settings). Click the Plus (+) sign on any date to add an event to that date, or click Add Event.
Title and Description
Just like in the Calendar Settings section you can add a title and a description for the event. You can add images, formatted text, videos and smilies using the edit icons above the description section.
Tip: There is no need to add a map here. Further down you can add the location of the event and automatically link the address to a map.
Start Time and End Time
In this section you can set the start date/time and end date/time. Or, select the "All Day Event" check box if the event will last all day.
Tip: You can create multiple day events by selecting the start date and end date for the event.
The Repeats option allows you to set up recurring events. Select an option from the drop down (Never, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly) and additional Repeat Options will appear.
Each repeat option has different settings. For instance, in this example the Weekly Repeat allows you to select the day of the week the event will repeat on. Monthly will allow you to select what day of the month the event will repeat on.
Enter the address of the event and click "link to map" to have a link to Google maps automatically generated for your calendar event.
Simple Event (within a day): A simple event can be added by typing a title and description. Select a start date and time. For an event within the same day, make the end date the same as the start date, and then choose a time after the start time.
All Day Event: Select the start date, then check off the "all day event" box. Times will automatically be disabled and the end date will be set to the same as the start date. This will create an all day event for that one day.
Multi-Day (Full Days) Event: Choose a start date and check off "All Day Event". Then choose an end date after the start date. You will have created an event that is for full days for the entire span from the start to end date.
Multi-Day Event (with times): Select the start date and time, then select the end date and time. This will create an event that spans the entire timeframe.
Recurring Events: To create a recurring event, first select the start and end dates/times, then where it says "Repeats" choose from the options "Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly. You can choose how often to repeat the event, and when you would like the event to repeat until. To repeat events on a specific day of the week, like Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for example, choose the "Weekly" option and then check off the days of the week you want it to repeat.
Once you have created an event, its simple to edit it. Simply edit your Calendar, then click on the event you wish to edit. On the event page, you will see an "Edit Event" button at the top. Click that button to make changes to the event.
To delete an event, simply go into your calendar and click on the event you want to delete. On the event page, you will notice a "Delete Event" button at the top. Click that to remove the event.
"Upcoming Events" Sidebar Module
The Calendars application also has a sidebar module called "Upcoming Events" which will display upcoming events in the calendar on your sidebar. The module is automatically generated when you add or edit any event to the calendar. To enable Sidebars on your site or to show or hide the Upcoming Events module, simply click the "Manage Sidebars" tab at the far upper right of your editor. If you have sidebars disabled, you can enable them with the button on that page.
