What is a Site Map?

A site map (or sitemap) is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for web design, or a web page that lists the pages on a web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. This helps visitors and search engine bots find pages on the site.

By default your website does not have a site map. However it is fairly easy to make a site map for your website.

Adding a site map is not the only method for getting your site listed in search engines. Other methods for getting your site listed in search engines can be found in this knowledge base article -

How to Create a Site Map

An in depth explanation of the sitemap protocol can be found at sitemaps.org - http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php

However the easiest way to create a sitemap is to use a sitemap generator like this one - http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/. You can then edit the file for specific inclusions or exceptions.

Upload the Site Map to your File Manager

  1. Log into your Webs.com account
  2. Click Edit Site
  3. Click File Manager
  4. Select Single File Uploader
  5. Locate the sitemap file on your computer
  6. Upload the file to your account

Provide the Site Map address to Search Engines

If you're not sure what the site map address is -

  1. Locate the sitemap in your File Manager
  2. Right click on the file and select Copy Shortcut
  3. Go to Google, right click, and select Paste
